In a move designed to modernize how its flights and services are retailed globally, TAP Air Portugal has inked an expanded agreement with travel technology giant Amadeus. The deal will see the Portuguese flag carrier’s New Distribution Capability (NDC) content integrated directly into the Amadeus Travel Platform, significantly widening the distribution of its most competitive offers.

The agreement marks a critical step in TAP’s digital transformation strategy, ensuring that travel sellers and corporations worldwide can access a richer, more dynamic range of content that was previously difficult to distribute through legacy channels.

Unlocking Richer Content for Travel Sellers

Under the new arrangement, travel agencies connecting through Amadeus will gain access to TAP Air Portugal’s enhanced inventory. This includes exclusive fare families, personalized bundles, and dynamic price offers that allow for greater flexibility and customization for end travelers.

By integrating this content into the Amadeus Travel Platform—which aggregates airline content from various sources into a single interface—agents can book NDC offers alongside traditional content without disrupting their existing workflows. This seamless integration addresses one of the primary hurdles in the industry’s adoption of NDC: the operational complexity of managing fragmented content sources.

A Commitment to the Agency Community

Justin Jovignot, Director of Distribution and Commercial Strategy at TAP Air Portugal, emphasized that the deal is fundamentally about supporting the airline’s trade partners.

“Taking another important step in our NDC journey, this agreement with Amadeus reinforces TAP’s commitment to the travel agency community,” Jovignot said. “By expanding global access to our richer and more competitive offers, we are empowering our agency partners with high-quality tools and delivering a better, more modern experience for travelers around the world.”

Pushing for Industry-Wide Retailing Standards

For Amadeus, the partnership reinforces its role as a key enabler of modern airline retailing. The company has been aggressively onboarding airlines to its NDC program to ensure its platform remains the most comprehensive source of travel content.

Ernest Rodá, Senior Vice President of Western Europe Airlines at Amadeus, highlighted the strategic importance of the deal: “NDC is a key enabler for the wider industry transformation to modernize travel retailing and achieve true customer centricity, and this extended agreement with TAP shows the joint commitment to support the change.”

Context of the Partnership

This agreement builds upon a longstanding relationship between the two companies. As airlines increasingly move away from static pricing models toward dynamic, retailer-style selling, technological bridges like the Amadeus Travel Platform are essential. They allow carriers like TAP to innovate their product offerings while relying on established global distribution systems to reach a worldwide audience of sellers.

Travelers can expect the effects of this integration to roll out immediately, as agents begin utilizing the new capabilities to offer more tailored travel solutions.
