When you search for a flight online, it triggers a complex request behind the scenes. Because more people are using apps and AI tools to compare flights, the number of search requests has exploded. However, most of these searches don’t actually lead to a booking.
This “junk traffic” creates a major problem: airline computers get overwhelmed trying to answer millions of questions that don’t result in sales.
The Solution: Advanced Airline Profile
Amadeus has launched a new tool called the Advanced Airline Profile. It uses machine learning (AI) to act like a smart filter.
- How it works: Before a search request even reaches an airline’s system, the AI looks at it. If the AI determines the search is “unproductive” (meaning it’s unlikely to lead to a sale or is just background “noise” from a bot), it filters it out.
- The Result: Only the most important, high-quality searches get through to the airline.
Why This Is Good News
- For Airlines: They can stop wasting money and computer power on useless searches. Early tests show this tool can block over 70% of irrelevant traffic without losing any actual sales.
- For Travel Agencies: Since the system isn’t clogged up with junk, search results come back faster and more reliably.
- For Travelers: You get a smoother, faster experience when booking your next trip because the systems running in the background are more stable.
When is it happening?
Amadeus is rolling this out now. They expect all airlines using their “NDC” (modern digital booking) technology to have this smart filter active by early 2026.
