Melbourne Airport is enhancing its passenger experience by installing over 70 next-generation “Seamless Bag Drop” units from Amadeus. As Australia’s busiest 24/7 airport, the upgrade aims to reduce queues and increase check-in capacity through advanced self-service technology.
Key features of the new system include:
Accessible Design: A unique side-loading mechanism allows for easier maneuvering of large items like wheelchairs and strollers.
Smart Detection: The units automatically identify incorrectly positioned bags, minimizing the need for staff intervention.
Hybrid Capability: Roughly half of the units can switch between fully autonomous mode and agent-staffed operation as needed.
Melbourne is the first airport in Australia to deploy this specific technology, which includes audio and visual interfaces designed to support travelers with special needs.
